2013 Ford Explorer

The completely reinvented Ford Explorer raises the bar for the 2013 model year with new luxury and safety features.

Explorer now offers a heated steering wheel to enhance driving comfort and smart HID headlamp beams that dim automatically when oncoming traffic is detected. Explorer bolsters its class-leading safety package with new knee airbags for the front-seat passenger.

2013 Explorer highlights include the latest-generation SYNC system with MyFord Touch featuring Wi-Fi capability, text-to-voice, HD Radio with iTunes Tagging and voice-activated navigation, plus a standard trailer sway control, which uses selective braking and engine management to tame unwanted trailer movement.

Explorer delivers a thoughtful, flexible interior package that abounds with clever storage solutions and generous head and shoulder room, three rows of flexible seating, and room for all the gear families invariably take along on their adventures.

Explorer's standard engine is a 3.5-liter V6 delivering 290 horsepower and 255 lb.-ft. of torque. Mated to Ford's six-speed SelectShift Automatic transmission, this efficient V6 delivers up to a best-in-class EPA-rated 25 mpg on the highway.

Ford Explorer V6 models are available with an intelligent 4WD system that adds terrain management. A driver need only turn the console-mounted knob to the proper setting for snow, sand, mud or normal mode. In addition, the system includes hill descent mode.

The 2013 Explorer offers the advanced 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine -- delivering the power of a normally aspirated V6 without compromise to its four-cylinder fuel economy. This direct-injected, turbocharged and intercooled engine delivers an estimated 237 horsepower and develops 250 lb.-ft. of torque from 1,700 through 4,000 rpm.
